You need to be very cautious before deciding on your health regime, because it can be a devil in disguise. Trust us, it can mess up everything.

You are seriously going to be shocked about what we are going to reveal today. But before we do, we’ve a question for you. We want you to analyse something: have you found your health going downhill, even after adopting healthy habits? You might feel fatigued, burnt out, face gut issues, and also have skin troubles.

Well, this can be due to two reasons:

1. That even after eating or living a healthy lifestyle, you are not doing it right.

2. And the second thing is you might be overdoing everything.

Make a note of this – you need to be passionate about what you eat, and also about staying fit, but obsessing about it will cause you to overdo things, which isn’t healthy at all. This is where most of us lack and get ourselves into trouble.

“An extreme limitation on food groups, which may result in only consuming less than a total of ten ingredients. An increased amount of time spent thinking about food, or allowing food to revolve around one’s daily schedule. Sometimes, people are obsessed about meal prepping. All this causes orthorexia,” suggests Amreen Shaikh, head dietician and nutritionist, Wockhardt hospital south Bombay.

She adds, “Orthorexia, or orthorexia nervosa, is an eating disorder that involves an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating. Unlike other eating disorders, orthorexia mostly revolves around food quality, not quantity. Unlike with anorexia or bulimia, people with orthorexia are rarely focused on losing weight.”

1. Too much working out
Extremely high intensity of workout, without giving your body proper rest can be harmful. Your body needs time for recovery, hence, one or two days of rest is recommended every week.

2. Over-hydrating yourself
This is one of the biggest disasters that can hit your body. Drinking too much water can cause electrolyte imbalance, and that can trigger fatigue and headaches.

3. Taking way too many supplements
The problem lies in you either being super lazy or not finding the right source for the nutrient. We depend too much on supplements for almost everything, be it skin, hair, heart, lungs, and god knows what. You know why it’s a problem? That’s because taking too many vitamin supplements can cause toxicity in your body, and you might end up wrecking your gut health.

4. Going for fat-free food
As soon as we go on a strict diet, the first thing that we deprive ourselves of are fats. FYI, this is another goof-up that we must not do. “Going for fat free foods are extremely important for your bodily functions, and also for fat soluble vitamins to get absorbed in the body. Hence, quantity and quality of fats is very important,” says Ms Shaikh.

5. Saying yes to sugar supplements
People don’t consider other calories, while consuming sugar-free food that leads to increased calorie intake. Also, we should not forget that these artificial sweeteners etc. are harmful as well. But yes, opting for other natural sources like jaggery, etc is totally cool.
