Personal grooming is an essential aspect of image consulting. With personal grooming, you enhance your appearance to look and feel good about yourself. And in doing so, you build your self-confidence. By following these basic personal grooming tips, you can ensure making a good impression on people who meet you, as well as those around you.

Face
Your face is the first point of contact when you meet someone. You don’t need makeup to make a good impression. Just keep your nostrils clean, your eyes crust-free, eyebrows trimmed, and avoid unwanted facial hair.

Skin
As a general rule, keep your skin clean and dry. Not sweaty or sticky. Use good skin products to keep your skin refreshed.

Some women choose not to get rid of their body hair. Everyone is free to make such choices. Just one word of caution – don’t let your body hair become so dense that “you” start feeling self-conscious about your appearance.

Hair
Again, clean and dry.

Also, keep a tidy hairstyle. Bangs are okay unless you’re spending too much time pushing your bangs away from your face. That’s just irritating!

Nails
Nail art is great but avoid dirt under your nails. And cut nails in a shape that doesn’t resemble talons.

I’ve had experiences with people who chew their nails when they are nervous or upset. If you tend to do that, DON’T. It’s a nasty habit that you have to get rid of.

Feet
No cracked heels. No dirty toenails. Avoid smelly socks.

If you tend to sweat too much through your feet, put some baby powder in your shoes before wearing them. It won’t do any changes to your appearance, but it will definitely help you not feel self-conscious about your sweaty feet. And that will help you focus your mind on other important tasks around you.

Clothes
Well-fitting clothes worn over well-fitting lingerie. That’s the golden rule among all personal grooming tips!

If you have trouble shopping for the right size and type of lingerie, just ask for help at the lingerie shop.

And always wear for your size, not the size you want to be.

I used to do that a lot. It’s been forever since I have wanted to lose weight, so I used to shop for clothes not in my current size, but the size I eventually wanted to be.

Obviously, that didn’t work out. I had to wait a long long time to wear any of those purchases. And if I used to struggle into those clothes, I would always feel conscious about my tummy sticking out, or butt being too bubbly, and what not! So now I wear clothes in my size. I feel good and that makes me look good because I am not self-conscious any more. You should try it too!

Shoes
Wear shoes that don’t make you limp or drag your feet.

Also, wear shoes according to your age.

And no matter how comfy they are, don’t borrow your kid’s Crocs, or pair up your Clogs with everything you own. (I used to do that too, that is, pair up every outfit I had with my favourite pair of Crocs. I used to feel comfortable, of course, but I sometimes was self-conscious if I was appropriately dressed or not. But thankfully, that phase passed and my other shoes are very thankful about it.)

Over to you..
Remember, these are just the basics. There’s a lot more you can do. But don’t go overboard.

All these practices are basically to boost your self-confidence. But if you keep worrying about not doing things the “right” way, you will end up feeling self-conscious instead. And that, in turn, will make you look less confident. So, follow these personal grooming tips, but don’t go crazy over them.

Accept the way you are – that will help you boost your confidence levels even more.
