Vomiting can sap your energy and leave you feeling miserable. Both adults and children experience nausea and vomiting at least a few times a year as we are eating out more and more now, especially high fat greasy foods. When we are vomiting, we should make sure to keep ourselves hydrated. Here some of the home remedies that has been proven to be effective for both adults and children.
1.Fennel Seeds:
Fennel seeds are an amazing home remedy for vomiting because it treats both indigestion and stops vomiting at the same time. To use fennel seeds, take a teaspoon of fennel seeds in a pan. Now dry roast in low to medium flame until the colour changes and a nice aroma wafts. Let cool completely and store in an airtight box. Chew quarter teaspoon of these seeds to stop vomiting.
2.Ginger Tea:
To make ginger tea, pound small piece of dry ginger and coriander seats in mortar and pestle. Now take the pounded mixture along with required amount of jaggery and a cup of water in a pan. Boil for a few minutes, strain and drink. For children, reduce the amount of ginger.
3.Jeera Water:
Jeera water not only treats indigestion but also helps stop vomiting too. To make Jeera water, take quarter teaspoon of cumin seeds in a bowl. Add a cup of water and boil till it reduces to half cup and then strain. Drink a cup of this to get good relief from vomiting. Jeera water is good for both adults and kids.
4.Mint Tea:
Menthol present in mint is a good home remedy for treating both nausea and vomiting. For me, the smell of mint treat nausea instantly. both smelling the fresh leaves and consuming mint tea helps. To make mint tea, take a handful of mint leaves in a bowl. Add in the cup of hot water to it and step for a few minutes, strain and drink.
5.Baking Soda:
Add quarter teaspoon of baking soda in a half glass of water and rinse your mouth with it. Use this solution to reduce the after taste in your mouth after vomiting. Baking soda neutralizes the acids that have risen during vomiting and are present in your mouth. Apart from getting rid of the horrible taste in your mouth, this remedy will also help to protect your teeth from getting damaged.
6.Flavored Water:
Flavored water also is an amazing home remedy for treating both vomiting and nausea. To make flavored water, take a little of boiled and cooled water in a bowl. Now take your favorite fruits, slice thinly and then add to the water. Let them steep for a few minutes and then drink. Fresh fruits give good flavor to the water.
7.Dried or Fresh Amla:
Consuming fresh amla and dried amla will help stop vomiting.Cut amla into small pieces, mix it with salt sun dry and then store in an airtight box. Chewing dried amla when traveling greatly helps prevent nausea and vomiting. If you don’t want to make your own dried amla, you can also buy it from the shops too. Even amla murabba and amla soaked in honey also will help treat nausea and vomiting.
8.Vinegar:
Dilute one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a half glass of water,use this solution to rinse your mouth.This might sound strange, but vinegar can surely ease vomiting. It prevents you from throwing up and also gets rid of that stale taste in your mouth due to its antibacterial nature. Use this remedy as and when required.
9.Aromatherapy:
Surprisingly aromatherapy can help a lot of people who suffer from nausea and vomiting often. Inhaling scents like lavender, eucalyptus, rose peppermint greatly helps. you can either add few drops to a diffuser or if you are traveling, add few drops to your handkerchief and keep inhaling the scent.
10.Orange Juice:
Like with all citrus juices, orange juice is also very effective for vomiting. try to consume a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. Drink a cup of freshly squeezed orange juice without any added sugar and it greatly helps.
11.Rice Water:
Add one cup of white rice in one and a half cups of water, boil it. Once the rice is cooked, strain and preserve the water. Sip this water slowly, and you will notice your vomiting has stopped almost instantaneously.
12.Tamarind:
This remedy will surprise many of you but tamarind greatly helps treat nausea and vomiting.Take a small piece of ripe tamarind and suck on it. Nowadays we get tamarind candy in the markets. They help with both traveling related sickness and and also indigestion related vomiting. Tamarind candy is especially a good remedy for children.
13.Lemon Tea:
To make lemon tea, take a cup of water in a bowl. Add in quarter teaspoon of black tea, boil for a few minutes and strain. Now add few drops of lemon juice and honey to taste. Your lemon tea is ready! You can make the lemon tea with green tea leaves too. For children, instead of lemon tea, give then lemon juice sweetened with raw honey.
14.Cloves
Chew two to three raw cloves to get relief. If you cannot stand the pungent taste of cloves, take a spoon of natural honey while munching on them. There is no harm if you swallow the cloves while chewing. Repeat this once or twice a day. Cloves are renowned for their antiseptic properties that have a positive effect on the digestive system. Their ability to stop vomiting is often employed in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine.
