Do you constantly feel that you have gained weight during your period? Well, this is a normal thing. Some people gain around 2-3 kilos during their periods. Yes! It may come as a shock to you but this is actually true. Relax, the period weight gain is only due to water-retention which is temporary, this means that this weight goes away once your period is over. This may sound and feel annoying but the next time your weight increases during your period, don’t be disheartened.

Hormonal changes
The female sex hormone estrogen is at its peak during the menstrual. This high level indirectly signals your body to retain fluid, making you feel bloated and potentially causing you to gain a few pounds of water weight. The better news is that these levels drop down as soon as you start your period. The other hormone to be blamed for this is the progesterone. The level increases in the second half of your cycle leading to water retention and breast tenderness.

Cravings
The wild food-cravings during your period are also a reason behind weight gain. If you are soothing yourself with a pizza or an ice cream, it is possible for you to gain some extra weight. This weight may stick around even when you are done with your cycle. If you are trying to lose weight then you must keep yourself hydrated and seek lean proteins to keep yourself full and eat healthy meals to keep your weight on track.

Laziness
Feeling lazy and wanting to sleep the entire day is quite normal for women who are experiencing their cycles. But if you fight this feeling and try to sweat it out, it might help in not gaining weight. This is because sweating helps you shed extra water weight. It also boosts endorphin levels that are responsible for eliminating cramps.

Caffeine intake
Temptation for caffeine becomes high during your cycle, trust us, we know it. This temptation is because you feel tired. But suddenly increasing the intake of caffeine can also lead to gastrointestinal issues like bloating and discomfort. Avoid drinking too much of caffeinated drinks, especially soft drinks, because they come with tons of added sugar or artificial sweeteners which can worsen the bloating.
