Effective Home Remedies for Migraine

Many people are occasionally bothered by headache and wonder how to get rid of a headache quickly. Migraines aren’t typical headaches. If you experience them, you know you may experience pounding pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. When a migraine strikes, you’ll do almost anything to make it go away.

Natural remedies are a drug-free way to reduce migraine symptoms.These at-home treatments may help prevent migraines, or at least help reduce their severity and duration.

1.Hydrate

The first thing to try to get rid of a  headache without drugs is to drink water or an electrolyte beverage. This helps because dehydration is a common cause of a headache. This is especially useful to get rid of a headache that results from drinking alcoholic beverages (a hangover headache). Ideally, choose an electrolyte beverage without artificial colors and sweeteners as these can add to a headache. Packets of powdered drink mixes, such as those mixed with vitamin C, are good options. If you have diabetes, it is important to look carefully at the sugar content of the drink.

2.Sleep Properly

Another effective way to treat and even to prevent headache is to sleep for 7 to 8 hours every night. Lack of sleep could disrupt your healthy lifestyle and can be responsible for various diseases. You may feel stressed out due to interrupted sleep which may become the reason for your throbbing skull.

3.Massage

Muscle tightness or spasm in the neck, shoulders and upper back can trigger a tension headache, and massage can relieve this source of pain. You can choose a professional massage to relax tight muscles, use massage balls, or even apply heat to your upper back and neck to help relieve a tension headache. Don’t forget that poor work-desk ergonomics, such as slouching in your chair or staring at a monitor screen that’s positioned too high, can cause upper-back muscle tightness that provokes a headache. Use good ergonomics to keep your spine and arms positioned correctly at your workstation.

4.Avoid Any Stressful Situation

If you experience any stressful situation, try to divert your attention. Distract your mind and concentrate on something that soothes your mind and body.

5.Use a Cold or Hot Compress

Applying a hot compress to the back of the neck or forehead can relax tension and ease vasoconstriction. For some people, a cold compress may feel better.

6.Apply Lavender Oil

Inhaling lavender essential oil may ease migraine pain. Lavender oil may be inhaled directly or applied diluted to the temples.

7.Get Some Caffeine

Have some tea, coffee, or something with a little caffeine in it. If you get it early enough after the pain starts, it could ease your headache pain. It can also help over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen work better. Just don’t drink too much because caffeine withdrawal can cause its own type of headache.

8.Take a Hot Shower Bath

This is another effective way to treat headache. Wash your head with luke-warm water and let it run down on your neck and back. It will alleviate the muscle tension and improve blood circulation.

9.Yoga

Because muscle tightness, skeletal misalignment, and mental stress all can contribute to headache, yoga can be an effective remedy for reducing headache frequency. Yoga addresses all of these factors that can trigger a headache. Yoga focuses on deep breathing, which reduces stress, along with gentle movements and poses that improve flexibility, decrease muscle tightness, and help maintain spinal alignment. For headache relief, try starting with a beginner yoga class and practice regularly.

10.Just Relax

Your body requires rest in case of any illness. Even a milder headache needs relaxation of muscles and easing tension. Just close your eyes and relax for some time.

11.Take a Nap

When you feel stressed or out of energy, relax and close your eyes. This will help in releasing tension and pressure from your body and can help in preventing headache. You should also avoid to exert yourself physically.

12.Acupressure

Acupressure is the practice of applying pressure with the fingers and hands to specific points on the body to relieve pain and other symptoms. Acupressure is a credible alternative therapy for people in pain from chronic headaches and other conditions.

13.Breathe In and Breathe Out

This technique is great to relieve stress and tension. And if done in fresh air, it is one of the best practices to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
