Katrina Kaif has a signature makeup look down pat. The actor always rocks a nude-pink lip, a super smoky eye and sculpted cheekbones. She doesn’t veer too far away from the classics—she shared that “yellow eyeshadow” would be a beauty trend she’d never try and “less is more” is her makeup advice. Use a highlighter to accentuate your features
Kaif knows her face, so she knows where to apply highlighter to sculpt and define. Her makeup artist, Daniel Bauer agrees. “Highlighter, when used in the rights areas of your face, can make you look like a million dollars,” he confirmed to Vogue India. But he cautions against applying it all over. “I see a lot of people using it in a way that has the complete opposite effect that makes their face looking swollen. Highlighting just the tip of your nose can make it look bigger. The same is true of highlighting your cheeks along with your cheekbones,” he says. Not sure where to apply it? “Highlighter need to be used in areas of your face where you have obvious bones, making your face look more oval and slenderer.”
Line your lips
Kaif wears a dusty rose-pink nude lipstick, and the texture is usually matte. To prevent it from bleeding, she uses a lip liner often. For best results, start from the cupid’s lip and draw around the lips to prevent feathering. Then, fill it in with lipstick in the shade you love.
Use kajal to define your eyes and make them look bigger
According to Kaif, kajal is a must-have product that she relies on to make her eyes show up brighter and bigger in photos. “Apply kajal on your lid, close to your lash line, then tap a thin, flat brush into a pot of black eyeshadow powder and press it on top of your kajal line. This creates an incredible depth,” she shared with Vogue India back in 2019. In 2020, she shared an update to that trick: “I always thought that when we enhance our eyes with a kajal and we line the top of our eyes and we line the bottom of our eyes‚ when you’re doing a natural day look, not a smoky look—that that’s going to make the eye look more defined,” she shared. Now, she has begun to smudge the liner on the top lid, which will make the “eye look so much more open and softer.”
Balance bold eye makeup
If you’re picking an intense shade like red for your lids, you’ll want to balance it with a neutral lip in a soft nude with a touch of gloss for shine, so you can play with textures too. Pros suggest adding white or nude eyeliner to the bottom waterline so eyes appear brighter, and finish with a mascara to provide length and volume to the lashes. Not sure what colour you should try? This is thanks to her foundation trick: “To ensure the foundation looks as natural as possible, my secret hack is to buff the formula onto my skin, as opposed to painting it on, which gives a smoother coverage and avoids streakiness. The final step is to seal it all in with a setting powder and blend,”
